• Pay attention to the vehicle's

  "Check Engine" and "Service Engine Soon" messages warn that the engine is not performing efficiently and may be polluting the air. The vehicle should be taken to a reliable service facility as soon as these message lights come on.

  Idling wastes gas, damages pollution control equipment on your vehicle. Turning off the car and starting it again uses less gas and produces less emissions than idling for half a minute or more.
