Green Driving 101

Eco-Driving is a change in driving habits that can significantly increase fuel economy on any vehicle. Maintaining momentum while driving are the basics of Eco-Driving and capable of increasing fuel economy 20-50%. Here are some easy tips you can use to increase your fuel economy and help the environment at the same time.
1. Accelerate slowly and steady from stop lights. Traffic lights are programmed for conservative acceleration and speed limits. By following this tip you can save gas and spend less time at the next traffic light.

2. Clean your car of excessive cargo. The added weight requires more fuel and decreased fuel economy.

3. Drive at or below 60 MPH as much as possible. Above 60 MPH fuel economy is reduced.

4. Coast when ever possible. Coasting to red lights will allow you to avoid stopping if the traffic light turns green.

5. Maintain engine RPMs below 2,000. Shift to higher gears to maintain low RPMs. Automatic transmissions will shift sooner by letting off the gas pedal slightly.

6. Avoid prolonged idling. If you idle your vehicle more than a minute it is better to turn the engine off.

7. Do not tailgate. Tailgating requires unnecessary accelerating and breaking.
